It’s time to recap my 2024! I’m thrilled to share that I achieved 22 out of my 25 goals this year.
2024 was packed with highlights and lifelong dreams, including:
Living in America (Michigan)
Being part of an a cappella group (go Groove!)
Taking belly dancing classes
Joining a chess club
Visiting iconic places like Mount Rushmore, Dollywood, Britney’s childhood home in Louisiana, everything New Orleans, touching a pyramid in Giza
Meeting the family I donated eggs to
And graduating!
Beyond my goals list, I also:
Jumped back into screenwriting with a kids' feature film
Ran a university group called Uniting Nations at GVSU
Starred in a university musical (Paulette in Legally Blonde)
Attended a sweat lodge ceremony in New Mexico
Took part in a hot air balloon ride over Luxor
Went on a lake dive into the freezing Lake Ontario
Performed the American national anthem at a Grand Rapids basketball game
Attended a dorm party on campus
Went on numerous road trips
Enjoyed beignets in New Orleans, deep-dish pizza in Chicago, cronuts in Denver, and meetha all over India
Witnessed the solar eclipse
Revisited Toronto and connected with friends
Got splashed by Niagara Falls
Watched myself in a movie (Don’t Click) and found my feature Zombie Bro on Amazon Prime
Shot a few guns
Checked out The Rockies, Taj Mahal and Angkor Wat
Navigated around India on motorcycles
Wore my first sari
Washed my hands in the Ganges River, swam in Halong Bay, and floated in the Nile
Ate the best bánh mì of my life in Ho Chi Minh City
While I didn’t achieve any future life goals, these are part of a long-term direction rather than immediate milestones. I hope having these written down and intentionally reminding myself of them lays the groundwork for the future (and in case manifesting is a thing).
Looking Ahead to 2025
2025 will be a chiller year with much less travel. My focus will shift to:
Getting on top of my financial responsibilities (minimising HECS, investing)
Building my social work career (anyone have a spot for me in hospital social work?)
Grounding myself in one place (purchasing a place, living in Melbourne)
If you have any suggestions, leads, or want to join me in achieving any of these goals, please let me know—let’s do this! Here’s my new goals list for the year:
December Highlights
As for December… I returned to Brisbane on the 2nd and quickly got back into the swing of things: working as a casual childcare educator for C&K, being somewhat useless on our family’s trivia team on Thursday nights, and spending long-awaited time with besties Sammy, Shekinah, Irena, and Jess. The biggest highlight over the month was hosting the Xmas Lights Van Tour. It’s the second year running, and this year we explored West Brisbane with an upgraded activity book featuring word scrambles, scavenger hunts, and more. My niece added an extra touch by hiding nine reindeer around the car for people to find! I’ve also enjoyed a peaceful Christmas break. I’m house-sitting for two lovely 16-year-old dogs, which has given me time to relax and binge many shows including The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Big Mouth, and Love Is Blind.
Happy New Year!
